St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church: Bonfire get-together stokes Christian fellowship

Sat, Sep 1st 2018 07:00 am
Tacos in a bag, homemade pizza, smores, crafts, games, and the tunes of professional musician Scott Celani were all featured at a bonfire at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church. In addition, the Rev. Earle King blessed backpacks filled with school supplies. Those backpacks are being donated to Huth Road Elementary School, Kaegebein Elementary School, and Sidway Elementary School.
Beth Boron, co-chair of the event with her husband Eric Boron said, "We wanted to have something at the church that had, as its sole purpose Christian family fellowship, not as a fundraiser and not as an event where people had to come and put in hours of work. We didn't want anyone to have to pay anything, so it was free. It was basically designed to be an event where families could come and parishioners could and, of course, our guests that we invited could come. It was a whole evening of relaxation, where we could get to know each other and our newer parishioners. We wanted people to see and to remind ourselves what a special Christian community we have in St. Martin's."
Boron said that the bonfire was originally planned for October 2017. "Last year, we were rained out and, this year, we had the most perfect weather night, and I really think that God gave that blessing to us."
She described the event as a success, saying, "I really think that it exceeded my expectations."
