Board of Education trustees had a first look at a proposed $23.2 million capital project Monday that would address safety and security concerns at the high school and middle school complex.
The board heard a presentation from Shawn Wright of Young and Wright Architectural, who told the board $14 million of the $18 million construction costs come at the Ransom Road campus.
Among the list of needs identified by a facility committee over months of discussion are proposals to renovate the middle school main office and guidance office and to build more secure entrances at both schools.
Nearly $4 million of work would take place at the district's three elementary schools combined. Also in the proposal is the addition of turf athletic fields to the back of the campus.
Monthly meetings between architects and the facility committee have been going on since April to develop a project scope and priority list. Ninety-two percent of the cost of the project would be aidable by the state.
Board members took no action on the proposal. Any capital project would require a public vote, proposed for December of 2018.
