On Sunday, families gathered at Fairmount Park for the 40th annual Wheatfield Family Picnic. The day of festivities kicked off around 10:45 a.m. and lasted until 5 p.m.
Attendees were greeted by food vendors - including the Wheatfield Republican Club serving beef on weck and corn on the cob; the Wheatfield Democratic Club supplied hot dogs; the Wheatfield Nitros softball team sold Chiavettas chicken dinners, and hosted the 50/50 and basket raffle; Adams Volunteer Fire Company supplied deep fried oreos; the Meeting Place supplied chicken and beef souvlaki, gyro pitas, pizza, sausage and fries; and the Bergholz German Band, as well as Nathan Zarbo, supplied live music for attendees.
There was also a kids carnival and kids fest for the little ones and their families, as well as horseback rides and a petting zoo.
Several Wheatfield elected officials were in attendance, including Town Supervisor Don MacSwan, and Councilmen Larry Helwig and Curt Doktor (who manned the steamed corn on the cob stand run by the Republican Club).
The picnic also featured a classic car show, which drew a fair amount of throwback hot rods, as well as some of today's finest automobiles.
The day started off with hour long church services at 11 a.m. and, as the day went on, there was a magician, bingo, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office K-9 demonstration, and much more.
All in all, the 40th Wheatfield Family Picnic gave families from all over Niagara County something to enjoy on a Sunday afternoon.
