'Kidz 'N' Kites' back for year 21

Thu, Aug 23rd 2018 01:05 pm
"Kidz 'N' Kites" comes of age this year with the 21st annual appearance of the popular family event.
The fun, the families, the wildlife, the food, the music and, of course, the kites all converge at Veterans Memorial Community Park, 7000 Joe Rotella Way, at noon, Saturday, Sept. 15. Early fliers can come at 11 a.m. to register.
The first 1,000 children to register will receive a free kite, T-shirt and lunch. All of them will be given tickets to win the drawing for one of the many prizes donated by sponsors.
Fly time is noon to 2 p.m. and families are reminded that there is no rain date.
There's much more to "Kidz 'N' Kites" than what's in the sky, on the prize board or on the menu. Many activities are throughout the park for families to enjoy. Clowns, face painting, animal and wildlife rescue groups, the Niagara Falls Fire Department Safety House, a car seat safety check, the Niagara Falls Police Department Dodge Charger, music by D.J. the Dee Jay and demonstrations by the Great Lakes Kitefliers Society will provide a fun-packed afternoon.
Also featured for the second consecutive year will be the Bikers Against Child Abuse, whose members have been showing their support for area family concerns.
The grand culmination of the event will be drawings for the grand prizes and a stunning and hilarious juggling performance by Injest.com.
Everything is free, because of the donations by the sponsors.
Heading off the list of sponsors is the Niagara County Department of Social Services, the County Youth Bureau, Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Niagara PAL, the Town of Niagara, Jonathan "J-Mill" Miller Memorial Giving Fund, Berkshire Farms, Grigg-Lewis Foundation, the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, M&T Bank, Niagara-Orleans Central Labor Council, Niagara Choice Federal Credit Union,  Candlelight Cabinetry, Catholic Charities, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 237, USI Insurance Services, Fresh Bake, Reid's Drive-In, Mighty Taco, WKBW-TV/DT and Wegmans.
