Culinary arts student receives ServSafe Certification

Reanna Hewitt, a recent Niagara-Wheatfield graduate, completed the culinary arts program at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center.
Culinary arts teacher, Bob Ihle, named her his outstanding student for two years and she received the culinary arts scholarship at the end of the year ceremonies. Hewitt will be attending the Culinary Institute in Niagara Falls, where she will major in culinary arts and commercial baking.
Hewitt took her culinary arts knowledge a step further by taking the ServSafe exam for food protection manager through the National Restaurant Association. ServSafe training and certification is recognized by more federal, state and local jurisdictions than any other food safety certification.
"She is our first graduate that took advantage of the sanitation knowledge she learned in our program," said Ihle.  "She paid out of her own pocket and took the national exam. I was so proud when she told me she passed and now has her certification."
With her certification in hand, it makes Hewitt a valuable employee within a restaurant and allows her to skip the sanitation course at college. "This test is a hard one, but I knew Reanna was capable of passing it," said Ihle.  "She now is a step ahead on her way to accomplishing great things at college and within our hospitality industry."
