July 28 fundraiser for Gavin Burns at BBC

Fri, Jul 6th 2018 03:10 pm
On June 1, 10-year-old Gavin Burns was injured in a lawn mower accident at his home in Lewiston. He was taken by Mercy Flight to Oishei Children's Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save Gavin's leg, but they were not able to save his foot, which had to be amputated just above his ankle.
He has had six major surgeries over the past month and is now was cleared to continue his recovery at home. Gavin has a long road ahead, but is in good spirits.
On June 17, the Niagara County Sheriff Department provided Gavin a police escort to his family's Creek Road residence. There, locals, volunteer firefighters from several departments, police officers and others lined up to welcome Gavin and his family home.
On Saturday, July 28, Lewiston resident Mike Carroll will hold a fundraiser - a "Christmas in July" costume party - for Gavin at 8 p.m. at the Brickyard Brewing Co., 436 Center St. The evening will feature an open bar, a DJ, 50/50 raffle, costume prizes and a huge basket auction. Tickets are priced at $30.
Carroll said he will donate half of the event's proceeds to the Burns family and the other half toward the Limbs for Life Foundation, which is a nonprofit organization that assists with the cost of prosthetics.
Carroll has been approaching Lewiston businesses for assistance and said, "So far, the response has been very positive. Being a lifelong village resident, I wouldn't expect anything less, though."
Tickets are available by contacting Carroll at 716-510-9468. They will also be available at the BBC.
Those unable to attend to fundraiser but interested in donating may send checks payable to Gavin Burns at P.O. Box 188, Lewiston, NY 14092.
