Individuals' paintings transformed into 10 feet by 10 feet mural on agency's greenhouse
Opportunities Unlimited of Niagara hosted a brief ceremony this morning to unveil the winning painting created by program participant, Ruth Denk, which was transformed into a 10-foot by 10-foot wrap mural and installed on the Covanta greenhouse at OUN.
Individuals from the agency's fine arts program created floral paintings this spring in preparation for this project, which was made possible through a grant funded by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature; administered by Arts Services Initiative of Western New York Inc.
Forty-one paintings were completed and one was deemed the winner. However, Mari Howard, CEO of OUN, who was also on the panel of judges, was so impressed with the semifinalists that she offered to donate and have the second place painting transformed and installed on the other side of the greenhouse. The second place winner and additional wrap mural was created by program participant Jennifer Stuart.
Roberta Nickelsen, fine arts coordinator at OUN said, "ASI has provided our individuals the opportunity to engage in various exciting and different projects, and this mural is no exception. They had a wonderful time preparing their paintings and it's absolutely delightful to see their creations transformed in such a way that many can enjoy."
