Town of Niagara Lions Hopeful Ways Eye Care Brigade goes to Nicaragua

Where there is a need, there is a Lion. Lions from local Lions Clubs lead a team to Nicaragua to help the poor as part of the Hopeful Ways Eye Care Brigade.
The Hopeful Ways Eye Care Brigade provides medical, humanitarian services and educational opportunities to the people of Nicaragua. They do this with great love and a sincere desire to improve the quality of life for the impoverished and to reduce preventable blindness and help preserve vision and visual function through refractive, medical and surgical efforts.
Before these Lions set off for Nicaragua, a group of Lions from the Youngstown and Town of Niagara Lions wanted to do something special for the kids.  The clubs decided to hold a Baseball and Glove drive.  Baseball is very popular there, as well as here, so they wanted to make sure as many children and young adults, were able to play.  The Town of Niagara's Lions Club member Lion Joe Moorhouse contacted Canisius College's baseball department to see if they had anything they would like to donate.  In return, the club received a huge box full of baseball hats and an equipment bag full of baseball equipment.
Lions and the Hopeful Ways Eye Care Brigade not only provided medical attention to the Nicaraguans, but in their free time, were able to bring some sportsmanship, fun and laughter with a good old fashioned game of baseball.  It's not every day that one can bring an American pastime with them to another country.
The Baseball and Glove drive is ongoing.  Interested citizens organizations willing to donate used or new equipment can contact Lion Theresa White at [email protected].
