The Wheatfield Town Board held its regular meeting on Monday. During that time, a motion was approved to allow dogs in all the parks within the town.
With signs first being placed in Fairmount Park, owners can now take their canine companions to Fairmount Park, Adams Recreation Park, American Legion Post 1451 Park, Baisch Park, Five Senses Nature Park, Mario Park and Mini Park.
The issue of dogs in the town parks was brought up by town Supervisor Don MacSwan, who received a call from a Wheatfield resident. The resident, who lives on Hoover Road, takes her dog to Cambria Town Park and Oppenheim County Park because, at the time, Wheatfield didn't allow dogs. She worried about her dogs safety at Oppenheim Park due to the constant traffic in that area.
"I think it's nice for the town residents. ... They're taking their dogs outside of the town, why not use our park," MacSwan said.
Additionally, Fairmount Park will also be going under restoration with the help of Curt's Lawn Service Inc.
Also, the Water and Sewer Department will conduct its yearly maintenance of grinder tanks and fire hydrants. Department Superintendent Richard Donner is advising people against disposing of flushable wipes and grease in the sewer as they can bind together and jam the grinder pumps.
Town Board meetings will now be held monthly, with the next meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday, July 2.
