Wheatfield CSD budget passes

On Tuesday, residents of the Niagara-Wheatfield Central School District voted on the $72,179,915 budget for 2018-19. The vote was approved with 547 "yes" votes to 212 "no" votes.
The budget was one of five propositions voters had a say in, along with a board member election.
Proposition No. 2 was approved, authorizing the establishment of a capital reserve transportation fund in an amount not to exceed $2 million to set up future district bus and vehicle purchases. The vote was passed with 567 "yes" votes to 183 "no" votes.
Proposition No. 3 was to expend from the transportation reserve an amount not to exceed $800,000 to purchase seven new school buses, which passed with 593 "yes" votes to 164 "no" votes. The vote will have no impact on the local tax levy.
Proposition No. 4 was to add a parking area along Stieg Road to alleviate parking problems at Errick Road Elementary School in an amount up to $635,000. The vote won, 540-215. This will also have no impact on the local tax levy.
The last proposition was to replace the dectron unit at the high school's pool for an amount up to $400,000. The vote has no impact on the local tax levy. The vote won, 567-189.
For 2018-19, there will be a 2.49 percent tax increase, a total amount of $485,913.
Lastly, Richard Sirianni (627 votes) and Steven Sabo (624 votes) were elected as School Board members.
