The Nancy Price Memorial 5K Run will be held Saturday, May 12, starting at the Youngstown Firehall, 625 Third St. The race route will take runners through the village and along the river walking path at Fort Niagara State Park, ultimately ending back at the Youngstown Fire Department. A post-race party will follow.
A half-mile "Kids Fun Run" will be held at Veterans Park directly across from the firehall starting at 9:30 a.m. All participating children will receive a drawstring backpack.
The 5K walk begins at 9:45 a.m. and the run will start at 10 a.m.
Awards will be presented to the top male and female finishers overall, as well as the top three finishers in each age group. The first 100 registrants will receive a race T-shirt, which features a design created by a Lewiston-Porter student.
Registrations are being taken online at www.racemanagementsolutions.com. Select the Nancy Price Memorial 5K. Or, register the day of the race at the fire department between 8:15 and 9:45 a.m.
The 5K has been taking place since 1993 in Youngstown. It was originally a "River Run." In 1995, the race and a local scholarship were dedicated to the memory of Price, a director of Youngstown Recreation for 20 years who died after a long battle with cancer.
The race proceeds are contributed to the Nancy Price Memorial Scholarship, which is awarded to one or more deserving students from the Lewiston-Porter Central School District participating in Youngstown recreation activities, excelling in academic programs and contributing to the Youngstown community.
