Niagara County Community College Interim President William J. Murabito announced Tuesday that Stephen Eden, New York State Sen. Robert Ortt and JoAnn Pellegrino will deliver the keynote addresses at the college's 54th annual commencement ceremonies. As a change from the past few years, there will be three ceremonies taking place on the Sanborn campus at 9 and 11:30 a.m., and 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, in the Arts and Media Theatre.
Eden, director of the culinary and hospitality council at Delaware North, will speak at the 9 a.m. commencement ceremony, which features graduates of humanities and social sciences and hospitality, tourism and culinary arts. Delaware North frequently partners with the Niagara Falls Culinary Institute, a division of NCCC, for ongoing workforce development training for its staff. Eden is an active member of the customer advisory council of Visit Buffalo Niagara, and received the Visit Buffalo Niagara Beacon Award in 2017.
The 11:30 a.m. ceremony will feature Ortt as the keynote speaker. He will address graduates of the science, health and mathematics division and business technology and the arts division. Ortt is a member of the New York State Senate Higher Education Committee, with previous experience as clerk-treasurer and mayor of North Tonawanda. In addition, Ortt was enlisted in the New York Army National Guard, and is a recipient of the Bronze Star, the Army Commendation Medal, the Afghan Campaign Medal and the Combat Infantryman's Badge in recognition of his service.
Pellegrino, M.S., R.N., vice president and chief nursing officer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, will be the keynote speaker for the 2 p.m. ceremony for nursing and allied health graduates. As a NCCC graduate and current adjunct professor at Roberts Wesleyan College, her background will be especially relevant for graduates with futures in the health care industry.
Those unable to attend the graduation ceremonies can log onto the NCCC website at www.niagaracc.suny.edu to view a live webcast.
