The Greater Niagara Federal Credit Union will promote Child Abuse Prevention Month by collecting comfort items during the month of April for the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, a service of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center.
The items most needed by the CAC are new stuffed animals. Greater Niagara FCU will accept those and other comfort items at both of its locations: 2901 Military Road, Niagara Falls; and 160 Ward Road, North Tonawanda.
"Greater Niagara FCU has been a champion for children and an active supporter of the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara for more than 20 years," said Ann Marie Tucker, the center's executive director. "The comfort items they gather help us provide more than 300 stuffed toys a year to the children who visit our offices in Niagara Falls and Lockport. Donations of children's DVDs to play in our waiting rooms are also very much appreciated."
In addition, the CAC and Greater Niagara FCU invite the public to use the hashtag #BandAgainstChildAbuse all month to promote child abuse prevention and education.
"This month and throughout the year, we join the CAC and Memorial Medical Center in encouraging all individuals and organizations to play a role in making Niagara County a better place for children and families," said Greater Niagara FCU spokeswoman Jennifer Grier.
"By ensuring that parents have the knowledge, skills and resources they need to care for their children, we can help prevent child abuse and neglect right here at home," Tucker said.
April also is National Credit Union Youth Month. This year's theme is "The Science of Saving" and Greater Niagara FCU will celebrate by helping its youngest members learn good financial habits that will help provide a hopeful future full of awesome possibilities.
