Lewiston's Memorial Day Remembrance Committee announced this year's Memorial Day parade will include a new element members are calling the "Youth Honor Guard."
The committee invites all Lewiston children ages 5 to 16 years old to join the parade, which marches along Center Street to the Veterans Memorial at Academy Park.
One must reserve a place in order to march. Younger children will ride, with an accompanying adult if needed, on a "people mover" trolley that will accommodate 40-50 children. The committee invites the older kids to walk alongside or ride decorated bikes in the parade alongside the trolley. Again, a limited number can be accepted, so it's first-come, first-served.

[email protected] or call Great Lakes Real Estate at 716-754-2550. Myers will need each participating child's name, age, phone number and address, so the committee can provide details prior to Memorial Day. Tell Myers if you plan to decorate a bike; she will provide some guidance.
Each participating child will receive an American flag and will be given reserved seating at the Memorial Day ceremony, plus lunch with their parents at the community tent in Academy Park at the conclusion of the ceremony. Children are asked to wear some red, white and blue, and to be both respectful and creative.
The Memorial Day ceremony will include selections by the Lewiston Choraleers, a rendition of "taps" by Karl Miller of Bugles Across America, a rifle salute by Hosingtons Ranging Company of Reenactors, a wreath ceremony conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post 7487 and a ceremonial flag-folding presentation by the Honor Guard from Joint Base Niagara.
The Memorial Day parade will begin at the Red Brick Municipal Building at 11 a.m. Monday, May 28.
