Current Medicaid recipients to receive notification letters
Medicaid recipients in Erie County will shortly begin to receive notices regarding a new way to renew their Medicaid coverage. These notices will come from the New York State of Health, and will inform recipients, "You and/or members of your household need to renew your coverage through NY State of Health."
The letters describe what steps the recipient needs to take to continue to have health coverage. Failure to act will result in the loss of health insurance after Medicaid ends. Should recipients have questions about the information in the letter, they may call 1-855-355-5777. Letters from the New York State of Health will go out monthly between March 2018 and February 2019.
Letter recipients will also receive a notice from the Erie County Department of Social Services informing them that eligibility for Medicaid coverage must now be determined by New York's health plan marketplace, New York State of Health, for the individuals specified in the letter. The county letter will inform the recipient of how long the current Medicaid coverage will last, and will alert them to look for the letter from the New York State of Health. The county letter will also include the number to call with questions: 1-855-355-5777.
Only Medicaid recipients who receive letters from New York State of Health or notices from Erie County are affected by the transition to the health insurance marketplace.
