On Wednesday, It's On Us and the Biden Foundation invited college students from across the nation to nominate fellow peers, athletes, colleagues and students who have intervened when a peer was at risk of being sexually assaulted, called out language that perpetuate rape culture, or made a difference on their campus by educating and engaging their peers to be a part of the solution to end sexual violence. Nominations will be open online from Jan. 31 to March 1.
The nomination form can be accessed at the link HERE.
"It's On Us is proud to partner with Vice President Joe Biden and the Biden Foundation to acknowledge the heroes of this movement, people who have stepped in and stopped sexual assault. These students embody the mission of It's On Us as we strive to build a movement to combat sexual assault. Tell us the stories of people who stepped out of their comfort zone, called out unacceptable behavior, prevented a sexual assault, or played a major role in changing the culture at their school. As we honor and highlight these changemakers, others will be inspired to follow in their footsteps," said Tracey Vitchers, director for It's On Us.
"The Biden Foundation is thrilled to work with It's On Us to honor individuals who have intervened to prevent or stop sexual violence. Vice President Biden believes that cultural change requires the participation of everyone on our college campuses and in our workforces to stand up and stop sexual assault. By honoring young people s who demonstrated such courage, we are helping to create a future without fear of violence or assault," said Lynn Rosenthal, policy director for violence against women initiative, the Biden Foundation.
It's On Us' mission is to build the movement to combat sexual assault by engaging young men and changing campus culture. Founded in 2014 by President Barack Obama and Biden, It's On Us accomplishes our mission by working on college campuses, teaching bystander intervention, and developing the next generation of movement leaders.
The Biden Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation established to carry on Vice President and Dr. Biden's lifelong commitment to public service, including the vice president's efforts to end violence against women. Through educational programming and public policy analysis, the foundation works to build a world where all people are equal in dignity and opportunity.
