Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bone loss and injury are all common causes of hip pain that can prevent one from being able to perform daily activities. If hip replacement surgery is in the future, but a lengthy recovery and fear of complications are stopping someone from taking the next step, there are other options to consider.
Catholic Health/Mount St. Mary's Hospital is sponsoring a community dinner program titled "A Different Angle on Hip Surgery: Anterior Hip Replacement," from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 29, at Four Points by Sheraton, 7001 Buffalo Ave., Niagara Falls.
Dinner guests will include orthopedic surgeon Dr. Kafai Lai, who specializes in anterior hip replacements, and physical therapist Kristin Barnard. They will discuss surgical and non-surgical treatment options for relieving hip pain. Lai will speak on the benefits of anterior hip replacement surgery, which include less pain, shorter hospital stays, fewer complications and quicker recovery times.
"A Different Angle on Hip Surgery: Anterior Hip Replacement" is open to the public. Catholic Health invites area residents to attend one free dinner program each year. Admission for each additional program is $20 and includes dinner. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call Catholic Health's HealthConnection at 716-447-6205.
