Promotions announced
Niagara County native and award-winning retired Gannett columnist Valerie Zehl will offer her popular "Writing Your Own Life Story" seminar at Niagara County Community College as part of the professional development days in January. The two sessions are free and open to the public.
Zehl's work has appeared in USA Today as well as hundreds of international, national, regional and local publications. The two sessions will be held on the NCCC Sanborn campus, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, on Friday, Jan. 5, 2018, from 11 a.m. to noon and 2-3 p.m.
The hour-long seminar will help participants gather information to write a personal history or even that of someone else. Seating is limited and reservations must be made by Dec. 20 to
[email protected] or 716-614-6796. The sessions will be held in the Student Entertainment Lounge, (Room G117A) parking in lot one (use athletics building entrance).
•William Murabito, Ph.D., interim NCCC president, announced two administrators recently accepted new positions.
Barbara Murphy DeSimone of Lockport accepted the position of director of public relations effective Nov. 13. DeSimone holds a MS degree in multidisciplinary studies and a graduate certificate in public relations management from Buffalo State College, and a B.S. in political science from SUNY Geneseo. DeSimone has served as the assistant director of public relations since 2009, where she was responsible for coordinating major events for the college, including commencement, college meetings, Balloons Over Niagara, and the Foundation Gala logistics.
Prior to working in public relations, DeSimone worked for 14 years in the NCCC Foundation Office as the assistant director and as alumni coordinator. DeSimone is a former adjunct instructor in the communications department at Buffalo State College.
Robert McKeown of Lockport has accepted the position of assistant vice president of enrollment management effective Dec. 4. McKeown is a graduate of Clarion University with a MS in mass media arts and journalism and a masters certificate in public relations. He is also a graduate from SUNY Empire State College with a BS in cultural studies and an alumnus of Niagara County Community College. Most recently McKeown served as the interim director of admissions.
Prior to joining the admissions team, McKeown was the NCCC athletic director for seven years.
