The Breast Cancer Network of WNY (BCN) will collaborate with Windsong Radiology Group PC to present a seminar for breast cancer patients and survivors at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7. The seminar is titled "Surviving Cancer - Creating your Life Plan." It will be presented by Windsong Breast Care Coordinator Kay Dekker, RN, BSN. Windsong will host the seminar at its facility, 55 Spindrift Drive, Williamsville.
The free seminar is the eighth installment of a 10-part wellness series designed for breast cancer survivors. It is funded by a grant received from the New York State Department of Health.
Registration is required and can be made online at www.bcnwny.org or by calling BCN at 716-706-0060. The program will include light refreshments.
Dekker has been an executive nurse manager for more than 25 years. She attained her bachelor's degree in nursing, with a minor in business and marketing from Niagara University. She has a diverse background specializing in the fields of developmental disabilities, assisted living, home care, hospice and breast oncology. Her presentation will include discussion on treatment, the latest research, survivorship, clinical trials, and resources available to Western New York women.
The Breast Cancer Network of WNY, founded in 1988, is dedicated to the education, support and advocacy for breast cancer patients and survivors. This volunteer-driven organization is located in Depew and offers a full schedule of support groups, restorative health classes, education programs, and outreach for survivors and newly diagnosed patients.
Windsong Breast Care was the first breast care program in Western New York to achieve accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. The program provides a multidisciplinary team approach - from early detection, rapid diagnosis and consultation to individualized leading-edge treatment plan options and a survivorship program. At Windsong Breast Care, their surgeons, radiologists, genetic counselors, and oncologists determine the best course of treatment based upon the individual's diagnosis.
