Photos: Veterans Day observed in Lewiston

At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Downriver Post No. 7487 and American Legion C.C. Kenney Lewiston Post 1083 gathered together at the eternal flame in Academy Park to pay tribute to those who fought for and died for this country.
At the Lewiston ceremony Saturday, a wreath was placed in front of the military monuments. The wreath is a symbol of eternity. Its color bespeaks life everlasting. "Thus do we say that the deeds of our soldiers, sailors, airmen and marines, on land and sea and in the air, are immortalized in the heart of a grateful people."
A white flower was placed on the wreath as a symbol of purity. "May each future generation emulate the unselfish courage of all men and women who fight for freedom."
The red flower located on the wreath "symbolizes the zeal of our departed comrades in upholding brotherhood, truth and justice."
Finally, the blue flower positioned on the wreath is a symbol of truth and fidelity. "These flowers are a token of our sincere respect for all departed comrades."
