The Niagara Beautification Commission is announcing a new initiative aimed at increasing access to holiday decorations throughout the city. The project will collect used Christmas lights in good working condition and redistribute them to families who need them.
Residents are encouraged to look through their garages, basements and attics and find working holiday lights they no longer use to donate. Lights can be dropped off at The Connection at 1700 Main St., on Mondays (noon-2 p.m.) and Tuesdays (6-8 p.m.) in November.
Anyone who wants to donate lights, but is unable to transport them, can call the Niagara Beautification Commission at 716-285-5030 or email
[email protected] to arrange pickup.
Residents in need of holiday lights can pick up lights at the Doris W. Jones Family Resource Building, at 3001 Ninth St., on a time and date to be announced.
Additionally, residents who have difficulty decorating their homes may be able to receive assistance through Niagara University's IMPACT program. Residents can inquire by leaving a message at 716-285-5030.
This project runs in conjunction with the commission's annual home holiday decorating contest.
The mission of the Niagara Beautification Commission is to mobilize the volunteer resources of the community's private and public sectors to implement visual enhancements beautifying the community, to educate and promote public awareness and inspire pride in the community.
