Congressman Brian Higgins and Buffalo Passport Agency Director James Theis announced the details of Passport Day 2017, an event that provides a convenient way for residents to renew a passport or apply for a passport for the first time.
The Buffalo Passport Agency will host a special Passport Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at 111 Genesee St.
Applicants may choose routine service (four to six weeks) or expedited service (two or three weeks). Expedited service costs an additional $60. Applicants will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. On Passport Day, no appointment is necessary.
This year, the State Department's public awareness campaign focuses on the benefits of getting a U.S. passport card and how both products (the passport book and card) are great forms of photo ID.
The Buffalo Passport Agency opened in 2010, following an appeal by Higgins. To meet the growing demand for U.S. passports, over the past seven years, the Buffalo Passport Agency doubled its square footage and staff, and opened two additional public windows, allowing the agency to serve more residents daily.
