The State University of New York Board of Trustees, in conjunction with the Niagara County Community College Board of Trustees, on Tuesday announced the appointment of Dr. William J. Murabito as the campus's interim president.
"Dr. Murabito is a well-known and respected member of the SUNY family, having served our university system in several capacities over the years," SUNY Chairman of the Board H. Carl McCall said. "His knowledge, experience and always student-focused leadership is ideally suited to Niagara County Community College. I look forward to working with him again."
SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson said, "Dr. Murabito is a dedicated public servant who understands the academic, research, and economic development missions of public higher education and knows how to ensure their success. I have every confidence that Dr. Murabito will be an excellent leader for the students, faculty, and staff of Niagara County Community College."
NCCC Board of Trustees Chairman Vincent R. Ginestre said the board looks forward to working with Murabito this year.
"We are confident that Dr. Murabito will provide strong leadership as NCCC continues to achieve its vision and strategic goals," Ginestre said. "We are pleased to have a leader with Dr. Murabito's proven success record and depth of experience in the SUNY system."
Murabito has provided guidance to colleges in transition and stability to the college communities he has served. He held the role of interim president at SUNY Cobleskill in 2002, Sullivan County Community College in 2011, and SUNY Morrisville in 2013, and as CEO/officer-in-charge at Rockland Community College in 2003.
Prior to those appointments, Murabito held several positions at SUNY system administration between 1983 and 2002, including associate vice chancellor of academic affairs, executive director for university technology colleges, and as associate and assistant vice chancellor for university life.
Murabito earned his bachelor's degree from Buffalo State College, a master's from the University at Albany, and his doctorate from the University of Illinois.
His appointment is effective on Oct. 16, and his appointment will continue for 12 months, or until the board of trustees appoints a successor.
