Islanders Pat Akinbami and Nancy Tobe told the Grand Island Town Board Monday that an informal poll of patrons at the Golden Age Center found unanimous support for leaving the center right where it is at the Nike Base.
The Golden Age Center is one of the elements under consideration for a move to a proposed community center.
During the public comment portion of Monday's meeting, Akinbami said during her recent visit to the center, discussion about a new senior center came up. She reported the results from "a little survey around our table about moving the Grand Island Golden Age Center," Akinbami said, and noted all persons polled said they like the center kept at the base.
Akinbami said 29 people wanted the GAC to remain where it is, while "No one said they wanted to move."
Akinbami gave the results to the board, noting it wasn't a petition, but rather just an informal survey that the seniors took on the spot.
