Resident Francis Flanagan has announced he is running for the Lewiston Town Board. He has received the endorsement of the executive board of the Niagara County Democratic Committee as well as the Lewiston Democratic Committee.
"I want to work to make Lewiston a better community and serve all the hardworking people that make our town a special place," Flanagan said.
He has lived in Lewiston for 17 years and is a graduate of Lewiston-Porter High School. His son and daughter attend Lewiston-Porter schools.
"I know how families sacrifice to make ends meet, especially with stagnant wages over the last several years," Flanagan said. "That's why we need to build a town government that works more efficiently and effectively to deliver the services we need."
Flanagan is employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber in Niagara Falls and is a member of the United Steelworkers Union, Local 4-0277. Previously, he worked for the Village of Lewiston Department of Public Works for 10 years and was a member of Teamsters Local 264.
"I identify with people that get up everyday, work hard, pay their bills and taxes, and want the best for their kids and community," Flanagan said. "We need to have a town government that reflects those values.
"I don't believe partisan blocs serve our needs. I intend to make decisions based on what the facts indicate, not the marching orders from political bosses."
Flanagan wants a review of all the town's legal service expenses and favors a long-term plan for Lewiston to effectively manage personnel expenses and capital projects, while maintaining the services residents enjoy, through smart management and attention to the detail.
"We have some serious challenges and I hope to be part of the solutions," he said.
