The Democratic Committee has announced endorsements of Cyndy Montana and Celia Spacone for Grand Island Town Council, Dan Drexelius for highway superintendent and Eric Soehnlein for town justice.
In making its endorsement, the committee called Montana "an active member of our community. Her dedication to PTA as well as being assistant to the supervisor for the last year and a half has given her a wealth of knowledge, especially an intimate knowledge of how governance works in our town. The supervisor describes her as respectful, responsible, reliable and resourceful."
Spacone is the executive director for the Buffalo Psychiatric Center and will be retiring this summer. "With her experience as an administrator and working with agencies over the last 35 years, she brings a fresh and mature perspective to the issues that are facing Grand Island," the committee said.
In endorsing Drexelius, the committee said he "comes to us with a wealth of knowledge of construction and know-how of the management needed to maintain the infrastructure of our community. He is dedicated to community service; leading such projects as the development of the Charles DeGlopper Memorial Park and the Miracle League."
Soehnlein is a graduate of Columbia Law School and Canisius College. As a prosecuting attorney, "he comes with a wealth of knowledge working with the courts. He has a sensitivity to the impacts of court rulings on families," the committee said.
As Grand Island Democratic chairman, Jim Sharpe said he is especially excited about the quality of the candidates endorsed by the Democratic Committee, saying these individuals "will keep Grand Island moving forward."
