Training to begin April 8

Oakwood Cemetery is seeking volunteer guides for its upcoming season of historic tours.

"Daredevils of Niagara" is an hour-long walking tour through historic Oakwood Cemetery. It explores the stories behind the sensational headlines of eight of Niagara Falls' most famous risk-takers, including Annie Edson Taylor and Matthew Webb. The tour delves into the complicated factors that may have motivated these "daredevils."

Oakwood Cemetery seeks candidates with a passion for history to participate in the free tour guide training on Saturday mornings beginning April 8. Guides will learn how to engage visitors in conversations grounded in historical research. The goal is for visitors to have an entertaining experience while gaining an appreciation for the human complexities of Niagara's "daredevils."

"Daredevils of Niagara" training will take place at Oakwood Cemetery, 763 Portage Road, Niagara Falls. Tours will run on Sundays beginning in May. No previous tour guide experience is necessary.

Incorporated in 1852, Oakwood Cemetery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2014. Learn more at www.MyOakwoodCemetery.com.
