Stewards of Children, a national program designed to help adults better protect children from sexual abuse, will be presented by the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara at three locations in Niagara County during the month of March.

Stewards of Children uses a "real-world" approach that integrates stories of sexual abuse survivors with the perspective of professionals who interface daily with the problem of sexual child abuse. More than a million adults have completed this training.

Classes will be held:

•March 7 at 2 p.m. at the Lockport Public Library

•March 22 at 2 p.m. at the North Tonawanda Public Library

•March 23 at 2 p.m. at the Niagara Falls Public Library's LaSalle Branch

The Child Advocacy Center of Niagara, a service of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, selected the Stewards of Children curriculum because it recognizes that, even though children should be informed about abuse and protective measures, adults have the primary responsibility for protecting them.

The Child Advocacy Center has trained more than 500 educators, child care providers, members of faith communities and other caring adults in the Stewards of Children program.

Molly Kurek, school counselor at Cataract Elementary School in Niagara Falls, recently participated and said, "Your presentation sent a very powerful message and should be mandatory for all educators."

Training is facilitated by Child Advocacy Center Outreach and Education Coordinator Jacqueline Pritchard, an authorized Stewards of Children facilitator. The session lasts two hours and an interactive workbook is provided to each participant through a grant from the Niagara Area Foundation.

All concerned community members are invited to attend Stewards of Children Training.

Pre-registration is required. Register online via the "Classes & Events" page at NFMMC.org or by calling the Child Advocacy Center at 716-285-0045.

The Child Advocacy Center provides a child-focused facility designed to coordinate a multidisciplinary response to reports of physical and sexual child abuse of children as well as cases where a child has witnessed domestic violence or has experienced trafficking. The Center is a Darkness to Light affiliate, authorized to facilitate Stewards of Children training. To learn more, visit www.CACofNiagara.org or www.facebook.com/CACofNiagara.
