A memorial Mass in honor of longtime Niagara University employee Sandra (Sandy) Knapp will be held at 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in Niagara University's Alumni Chapel. The Rev. James Hubbert, C.M., will preside at Mass. University chaplain Rev. Vincent O'Malley, C.M., will deliver the eulogy. Friends and colleagues are invited to a reception with light refreshments at the Castellani Art Museum immediately after Mass.

Knapp, who passed away on Jan. 17, in Richford, Vermont, worked at Niagara University for 36 years. Those who worked with Knapp remember her as being unfailingly kind and welcoming to friends, coworkers and students alike. She had a special affection for international students, providing them with a sympathetic ear, nourishing meals and, sometimes, a place to stay.

She was honored with the Vincentian Mission Award in 1997. Former NU President the Rev. Paul Golden, C.M., said, "Sandy has reached out to refugees, migrant workers, shut-ins, the poor - virtually anyone in need who happens to cross her path."

Knapp's career at NU began in 1969. She served as secretary to five Niagara University presidents: the Revs. Slattery, Mahoney, Nugent, Harrington and O'Connell. In 1991, she moved to the Castellani Art Museum, serving as assistant to the director, and served in that capacity until her retirement in 2005.

Knapp was actively engaged in the Niagara University community, serving as moderator for the international students association and the English as second language liaison to students from MEIO University in Okinawa, Japan. She earned her degree in foreign languages (French) from NU in 1993.

All are welcome to attend the Mass and reception.
