YMCA Buffalo Niagara has announced the Lockport Family YMCA is set to merge with it in February 2017. YMCA Buffalo Niagara's joint board of directors and board of trustees met Monday to approve the merger, while the Lockport Family YMCA board of trustees and board of directors approved joining the YMCA Buffalo Niagara association earlier this month.

"This is an important milestone for the Lockport Y and YMCA Buffalo Niagara. Our mission is to provide vital services needed for everyone in the community to build a healthy spirit, mind and body. By merging the Lockport Y with our association, we have a tremendous opportunity to widen our reach in the Lockport community and serve even more children and families," said Buddy Campbell, YMCA Buffalo Niagara president and CEO.

The merger was contingent upon the Lockport Y reaching its capital campaign goal, which it did earlier this month under the guidance of YMCA Buffalo Niagara. Capital campaign funds will underwrite the construction of a brand-new 52,000-square-foot building located on Snyder Drive in South Lockport. The new facility is expected to break ground in July 2017 and open to the public in October 2018.

Locally founded in 1852, YMCA Buffalo Niagara is a charitable, community-based organization committed to providing programs designed to build a healthy spirit, mind and body for all. The YMCA's focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility is reflected in the variety of programs it offers to all ages and abilities. Collaborations with insurance carriers such as Univera, Independent Health and BlueCross BlueShield provide the opportunity for those seeking a healthier lifestyle to do so at the YMCA.

A not-for-profit organization, YMCA Buffalo Niagara serves over 100,000 people annually through seven branches located throughout Western New York, as well as at more than 40 community-based program sites. For more information, visit www.YMCABN.org.
