A local business is giving back to the community it serves this holiday season.

Tuesday afternoon, Grand Island Chiropractic and Notaro Chiropractic donated two big turkeys for the needy at the Community Missions of Niagara Frontier Inc.

Jodi Notaro (office manager), Dr. Curtis Gordon and Kelsey Lynch (reception shift supervisor) presented the turkeys on behalf of all the doctors and staff of Notaro Chiropractic and Grand Island Chiropractic, including Dr. Thomas Notaro, Dr. Andrew Green and Dr. Michael Baase.

"We do this because we like to help people and we like to give back," said Notaro. "This is the time of year to do that."

Notaro said she and her husband, Dr. Tom Notaro, are starting an annual tradition at the company, which has two locations: Notaro Chiropractic at 10158 Niagara Falls Blvd. in Niagara Falls, and Grand Island Chiropractic at 2283 Grand Island Blvd. in the Town Hall Plaza.

The company chose Community Missions where Kelsey Lynch, shift supervisor at Grand Island Chiropractic, has volunteered her time for the last four months.

Lynch said she volunteers because she likes helping others and seeing the grateful looks on the faces of those shed helps.

Stacey Menard, community coordinator at Community Missions of Niagara, said the need at Community Missions is all year round.

"We've had an up-tick" of households seeking support, Menard said. "Just in August, September and October we had 20 extra families each month come to us." Some households are as large as 10 people, she said.

Community Missions is the largest private provider of crisis services in Niagara County.

Menard said men's gloves and men's underwear are on her current wish list for the patrons of Community Missions. Some men undergoing reentry into society on parole or who are in need of crisis housing have little or nothing.

To support Community Missions of Niagara Frontier, Islanders can call 716-285-3403 and reach Menard at ext. 2250 or Andrea Gray at ext. 2225. To lend a hand, Grand Islanders can also stop at the Community Mission, located at 1590 Buffalo Ave., three miles from the North Grand Island Bridge.
