Grand Island: Whitehaven Road striping update

Sat, Nov 5th 2016 07:00 am

Grand Island Highway Superintendent reminded that Whitehaven and Baseline roads are owned by the county and maintained by the Erie County Department of Public Works. The town has no input as to what the county does or their time line in doing it, Jim Tomkins said.

"That being said, we have been receiving a lot of calls on this same subject and have been giving them our district Legislator Kevin Harwick's phone number."

Hardwick's office can be reached at 716-858-8672.

Tomkins said the last the town heard from the Erie County DPW was that they were waiting on the striping contractor, who is backlogged because of the New York State Thruway repaving/striping work. Tomkins said the county got rid of their road striping equipment a few years ago and, like the town, is dependent on one contractor in the entire northeast for road striping.
