A well-known area artist has received another award for her narrative sculpture - this time in New York City at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in Manhattan, site of the 103rd annual exhibit of the Allied Artists of America.

Lewiston resident Susan Geissler was presented the coveted Marilyn Newmark Award in the traditional sculpture category. She was honored for her work for the sculpture of the baby, which appears in the Freedom Crossing Monument on Lewiston's riverfront (unveiled in 2009). The ceremony was held on Sunday.

Geissler specializes in realistic sculptures, focusing on portraits and narrative subjects that tell a story. She has completed more than 32 pieces of public and monumental sculpture in the U.S. and Canada, including the large-scale Tuscarora Heroes Monument, which can be seen at Portage Road and Center Street in Lewiston.

She was won five national awards in the past 18 months, and works from her studio on Main Street in Youngstown.
