The Buffalo Sabres announced Friday that Rob Crean was named director of World Junior Championship for the organization. In his new role, Crean will oversee the day-to-day operations of the IIHF World Junior Championship, taking place in Buffalo from Dec. 26, 2017, to Jan. 6, 2018.

Crean will serve as the main liaison between the Sabres and USA Hockey during their preparation for the tournament and will be responsible for the planning and implementation of the event. He will also assist with special projects at HarborCenter and in the Sabres' community relations department leading up to the tournament.

Prior to beginning his current role, Crean served as the director of public relations for the Rochester Americans (AHL) for five years, and was the host event coordinator for the IIHF World Junior Championship when Buffalo hosted the tournament in 2011. He also previously served on the public relations teams for the Sabres and Phoenix Coyotes.
