Three sessions of Art Camp and one month-long intensive Rock Workshop

Artpark's annual summer Art Camp and new Rock Workshop are just around the corner. Experienced artists will guide children and teens through various workshops to help students explore and develop their inner artist.

Scholarships are available for Rock Workshop. Visit www.artpark.net for more information and to download a printable registration form.

At Art Camp (July 11-15, 18-22 and Aug. 1-5; ages 9-14) campers explore their creative minds with artist-led workshops including drawing and painting, ceramics, 3-D, portrait, soft sculpture and interior design. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On the final day of camp, family and friends are invited to attend the art show, where young artists will display their original creations.

The cost is $225 per session.

Rock Workshop (July 5-29; ages 12-17) focuses on real music industry production. The month-long intensive will help prepare young musicians for a career in music.

Every Friday, attendees will get to participate in group talks and get advice from local music industry gurus such as Geno McManus, Anthony Cassucio and Richard Sargent. Talks will focus on subjects such as how to write songs as a band, making a good music video, how to market your music and band, and performing live.

Camp runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. weekdays. The workshop is open to, but not limited to bass, vocals, guitar, percussion and keyboard.

Attendees will also get the opportunity to form bands, write and record an original album, make a music video, and compete in a battle of the bands on Artpark's amphitheater stage July 30.

The cost is $975 per musician.  Artpark is offering two full scholarships, thanks to proceeds from the Philip Burke painting raffle, and two $275 scholarships donated by Favorite's Pizza. To apply for scholarships, submit an essay explaining who or what inspires you to create music. Applicants may send an essay by June 27 to Tanis Winslow, Artpark director of visual arts & family programs, at [email protected].

Full payment is due upon registration. Enrollment is limited, as one-on-one instruction is emphasized. Visit www.artpark.net for more information.

Lewiston residents receive 10 percent off the cost of camps.
