Concert series at Gratwick Riverside Park

Mayor Arthur G. Pappas announced at a press conference Friday the plans for the 2016 "North Tonawanda's Rockin' On The River." The three-concert series takes place Fridays, June 24, July 1 and 8, at Gratwick Riverside Park.

Pappas was joined by several other high-level North Tonawanda officials, along with concert sponsor representatives, in announcing featured bands Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Rik Emmett and Three Dog Night.

All of the concerts will be free for everyone to attend, though VIP passes will be available for purchase from the concert website, www.ntrockinontheriver.com. There will be a $5 charge for parking at the park for all of the concerts. Food and beverage will be sold at the venue; no food, backpacks or coolers will be permitted.

Kathy Paradowski of Canal Concerts Inc. is the promoter for this concert series.

"I would like to thank the sponsors for making this series possible, and I would like to welcome the Western New York and Southern Ontario communities to the City of North Tonawanda in attending these free concerts," Pappas said. "Each year, these concerts continue to be successful in bringing thousands of concertgoers to one of the most beautiful venues along the Niagara River: Gratwick Riverside Park."

Shepherd is a multiplatinum-selling guitarist, singer and songwriter originally from Shreveport, Louisiana. Best known in Blues circles, Shepherd has released seven albums. His debut dropped in 1995 - when he was only 18 years old.

Canadian rock singer Emmett of Triumph has enjoyed a long and prolific career, both as a solo artist and as a founding member of the rock band. He is well known for his wide range of guitar styles, which incorporates rock, blues, jazz, classical, bluegrass and flamenco.

Three Dog Night is an American rock band based out of Los Angeles. Members formed in 1967 with a lineup of vocalists Danny Hutton, Chuck Negron and the late Cory Wells of Buffalo. The current band includes Hutton and David Morgan, guitarist Michael Allsup, drummer Pat Bautz, keyboardist Eddie Reasoner and bassist Paul Kingery, who also contributes guitar and vocal duties. Three Dog Night earned 12 gold albums and recorded 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits, seven of which went gold. The group's No. 1 songs included "Mama Told Me Not to Come," "Joy to the World" and "Black and White."

Parking at Gratwick Riverside Park will open up at 2 p.m. on the day of each concert. Additional information, such as start times, names of opening bands, VIP passes, etc., can be found at www.ntrockinontheriver.com.
