Grand Islanders Diane and Rich Gurbacki are continuing their efforts to support Roman Catholic nun Sister Mary Johnice Rzadkiewicz and the mission that is taking place at St. Adalbert's Response to Love Center on Buffalo's East side.

The Island couple is expanding a diaper drive for the poor served by Sister Mary Johnice at the center (www.responsetolovecenter.org) located in the former St. Adalbert's Parish School at 130 Kosciuszko St. in Buffalo. The center is dedicated to helping those in poverty become self-sufficient.

The Gurbackis, who organized a diaper drive at St. Stephen R.C. Church in December, are continuing the drive with an event at Flying Bison, 840 Seneca St. in Larkinville, Buffalo, from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday, June 11. Donors who bring packaged diapers worth $10 or more will receive a free pint and five tickets for a basket raffle. The raffle includes autographed posters, beer baskets, automotive items, quilts, sports memorabilia and concert tickets.

Rich Gurbacki said a diaper drive organized at St. Stephen R.C. Church on Grand Island, which had an original goal of 1,000 diapers but collected 4,000 diapers, has expanded to a different church each month this year with a revised goal of 50,000 diapers.
