More than a dozen volunteers were hard at work last Saturday cleaning up the Tuscarora Heroes pocket park at Portage Road and Center Street in Lewiston to make way for over 1,000 daffodils that will begin to bloom in the next couple of weeks.

Led by volunteer Greg Gima, the group's goal is to create a showcase garden that will be ranked as one of the best in Western New York.

Participants included volunteers from the Historical Association of Lewiston, the Tuscarora Nation and Lewiston Boy Scout Troop 855.

The monument was dedicated in 2013 and commemorates the time in 1813 when Tuscarora natives saved dozens of Lewiston citizens from a British attack during the War of 1812.

Those interested in joining the effort to manage and beautify the park are welcomed to send an email to: [email protected].
