Janese calling hours Saturday

Douglas A. Janese Sr., 62, of Lewiston, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2016, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo. Janese was serving as highway superintendent for the Town of Lewiston, a position he held for the past six years. He was re-elected in November.

Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Frank C. Jr. and Jeanette (Fonzo) Janese.

Janese was a lifelong resident of the Niagara County area. He attended local schools and graduated from Niagara-Wheatfield High School. On Aug. 30, 1975, he married Susan (Forysinski) Janese at St. Mary of the Cataract Church in Niagara Falls.

Janese was employed at Great Lakes Carbon for 10 years and later became a member of Carpenter's Local 280 and worked on various construction sites for 20 years. For several years, he was also self-employed as a property manager.

Janese was an active member of the Kiwanis Club of Lewiston, the Niagara County Highway Superintendents Association and the Sanborn Area Historical Society. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife of 40 years, Doug is survived by three children: Douglas A. Jr. (Erin) Janese, Jeremy J. Janese and Diana J. (Christopher) Regan; four grandchildren: David and Daniel Janese, and Brigid and Bragnae Regan; one brother, Gregory P. (Susan) Janese; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by one brother, Frank C. III (late Deborah) Janese.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20, at the M.J. Colucci & Son Niagara Funeral Chapel, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls.

Private funeral services and interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston.
