St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church: King given honorary canon

Sat, Jan 16th 2016 11:00 am

Episcopal Bishop William Franklin gave the Rev. Earle King of St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church and four other priests the title of honorary canon at an evensong on Jan. 6 at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Buffalo.

King, pictured second from left above, said, "Thirty people from St. Martin-in-the-Fields came downtown for the event. It was wonderful. I am a canon because of the spectacular support of family, friends, and congregation. I am the luckiest priest in the diocese. The folks here are great. Without their support, I would have never been honored last Wednesday."

Canon is an honorary title conferred on clergy and, in some cases, laity, for their service to the church.

The other priests who were conferred the title of honorary canon were Barbara Price, Gloria Payne-Carter, and Jerre Feagin.
