NCCC ranked No.1 for online degree program

Niagara County Community College was recently ranked No. 1 amongst competitors for its online associate's degree in information technology by onlinecolleges.net.

The website determined its findings by partnering with the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center, CollegeBoard, Institute of Education Sciences, the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor and Statistics and the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. For 2015, onlinecolleges.net ranked NCCC at the top of the list based on academic quality, online offerings, cost and student aid.

"We have exceptional online degree programs at NCCC, and I'm thrilled that our computer information degree has been recognized," NCCC President James P. Klyczek said. "Good paying jobs in this field are projected to grow for the next 10 years, and NCCC can get you started in this career."

"I'm very proud of this achievement," NCCC Coordinator of Electronic Learning Lisa Dubuc said. "The computer information systems online AS program was also selected to be an Open SUNY Partner Plus program last year. Additionally, NCCC's eLearning Department services more than 2,800 online students per year; this program is one of nine blended and online degree and certificate programs offered. We are proud to offer flexible learning options for our students and even prouder to see our first fully online degree program offered at NCCC, reach this status."

NCCC ranked higher than Erie County Community College, which came in seventh out of 25.

NCCC offers an online AS in computer information systems, designed to provide a broad overview of field basics during the course of a two-year undergraduate program. The degree includes 62 total credit hours, combining required courses in computer information systems and computer science with a mix of liberal arts and social science electives.

Online courses may be completed as part of a full-time or part-time schedule and are delivered through the Blackboard platform. In addition to resources for distance learners, such as academic advising and bookstore and library access, online students can access development tools offered through the virtual classroom. Unique features offered include career assistance, workforce development and community outreach - all conducted via the program's online interface.
