Sanborn Boy Scout Troop 824 partners with Lollipop Loft Children's Consignment Store for sizeable donation of children's clothing

More than 6,300 children's clothing items were donated to local organizations last weekend, thanks to the efforts of Greater Niagara Frontier Council's Boy Scout Troop 824 of Sanborn and Lollipop Loft Children's Consignment Store. The donation was made to Community Missions, which then offered The CRIB Maternity Group Home and The Magdalene Project share in the bounty.

A recent visit to the troop from CM Director of Ministry and Community Partnerships the Rev. Mark Breese led to the Scouts considering ways to give back. Breese shared ways they could make a difference in the community.

Dave Majewski, owner of Lollipop Loft Children's Consignment Store, brought up the idea of the troop working with him to sort and collect clothing that could be donated for distribution to individuals in need.

"We are thrilled that these pieces are being given to so many organizations that directly impact those in need," said Majewski, who recently bought the store at 2120 Niagara Falls Blvd. "It was our hope that these items would find great use by being given to local agencies, and we are glad to see that is already the case."

In all, the donation totaled 6,399 items of children's clothing, 20 pairs of shoes and 10 bags of adult clothing. The donation came to CM already sorted by size, meaning the donations could go directly out for selection through the mission's Clothes Closet Monday morning.

"What a meaningful project for the scouts to get involved with," said Kendra Gaynor, troop committee member. "Involvement in something like this can not only impact those that can use the donated items, but can provide a positive lifelong impact on our scouts, as well."

When Life Scout Kyle Loughrey was asked why he was helping out with this project, his response was, "I do it for the purpose of helping people. There are so many people who can't get good jobs; this is my way of helping. These people deserve help."

Boy Scout Troop 824 is sponsored by its chartered organization, the Sanborn Fire Co., and is a member of the Greater Niagara Frontier Council in Western New York.
