Sat, Oct 17th 2015 11:30 am

The GI Rotary will hold an Art Auction at Byblos Niagara on Saturday, Oct. 24, beginning at 6 p.m. to raise proceeds for the GI Students Scholarship fund. The preview starts at 6 and the auction begins at 7 p.m.

The auction will take place at Byblos Niagara Resort & Spa, 100 Whitehaven Road.

Rotarians say the art auction is a great opportunity not only to acquire nice pieces of art at very reasonable prices, and in all price ranges, but also to support a worthwhile cause. The starting bids on the art offered is usually around one-third the price one would pay for the same thing at traditional art galleries. Opening bids can start as low as $25 and are in a wide price range to suit everyone's tastes.

A portion of the proceeds goes toward:

•Grand Island Rotary's Student Scholarship and Activities Fund.

•Byblos Niagara Resort and Spa

•Christine A. Learman, CPA, PC

•Critter Crossing Creations - Clair Talbot Chainsaw Artist

•KeyBank National Association

•Madison Carpet One Floor & Home

•Premier Wine & Spirits

•Upstate Clinical Research Associates

About 150 pieces of art are brought for the auction.

In addition to the art, chainsaw-carved owl by Clair Talbot, which is on display at the KeyBank branch, will also be available at the auction. Talbot has carved many trees on the Island, including the two bears on West River Road.

A feature of the auction is the availability of class art projects from Kaegebein Elementary and Huth Road Elementary school students.

Individuals interested in bidding on Clair's carving, or the student art pieces, must bring cash or a check. All other items available at the auction may be paid for by credit card.

Tickets can be purchased either at the GI KeyBank branch or by contacting Richard Earne at 716-773-6346.
