Senator secures funds for Aerospace Museum, Niagara County Historical Society and local law enforcement

State Sen. Rob Ortt, R-C-I-North Tonawanda, delivered a combined $90,000 Monday in state funding to support programs, services and public safety efforts in Niagara County. The senator secured the funds as part of the 2015-16 state budget.

Ortt presented a ceremonial check to the Niagara Aerospace Museum in the amount of $15,000. The museum, which relocated to an empty terminal at the Niagara Falls International Airport in Wheatfield a couple years ago, will use the money for day-to-day operating costs for the facility. The museum also will use a portion of the funds for its educational and cultural programs.

The Niagara County Historical Society received a check in the amount of $30,000 for its educational services and programs about the history of the Niagara Region. A portion of the money will also be used for ongoing renovations at the Lockport facility.

And, during a check presentation ceremony at the district office in Lockport, Ortt handed out a handful of oversized checks to Niagara County law enforcement agencies totaling $45,000. The funds will help fight against crime, allow agencies to operate more effectively and efficiently, and assist in emergency services and public safety measures.

The Niagara Falls Police Department, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office and the Niagara County DA received $10,000 each, while the North Tonawanda Police Department and Lockport Police Department received $7,500 each.
