Friends and family of Craig Burns announced a benefit will be held in his honor from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Shawnee firehall, 3747 Lockport Road in Sanborn.
Burns, a Starpoint grad and former volunteer fireman, has served the community over the years as a Little Loop baseball and football coach, and a wrestling coach. A father, husband, brother and friend, he is currently battling Hodgkin's lymphoma.
Proceeds from the benefit will go toward assisting his family with mounting medical bills and expenses.
The event will feature foods and beverages, a 50/50 raffle, basket raffle, door prizes and a band. Adult tickets are $20 advance sale or $25 at the door; children are admitted for $10 advance or $15 at the door.
