Assemblyman John Ceretto helped pass legislation this week that will encourage New Yorkers to receive cancer screenings while reducing health care costs. He is a co-sponsor on bill A409, which will save New York state a substantial amount of money in health care costs while granting government-sanctioned time off from work for cancer screenings.

"Balancing a busy work schedule with trips to the doctor's office is never easy," Ceretto said. "This bill is a win-win for hardworking New Yorkers who don't have the time and energy for a cancer screening after a long workday."

"We are lucky to have so many great hospitals in Western New York that are ready and willing to provide cancer screenings," he added. "I'm confident that this bill will give New Yorkers more incentive to obtain annual cancer screenings and save lives by detecting cancer cells in their early stages."

The bill has yet to come to the Senate floor for a vote.
