Music has the power at Complete Senior Care PACE

The ancient Greek philosopher Plato once said, "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." Over 2,000 years later, we are learning how right he was.

Niagara Falls' own Complete Senior Care recently began a new program featuring music therapy with some of its dementia clients, thanks to a donated iPod and headphones from Phil Mastantuono of the Mastantuono Allstate Agency.

Studies suggest music has power and can spark compelling outcomes with the dementia population, even in the very late stages of Alzheimer's disease. When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function and coordinate motor movements.

With this new recreational program, CSC therapists conduct a music assessment individualized to each participant. A unique playlist is then created with that patient's preferred genre of music. PACE representatives said "the results have been amazing."
