The Grand Island Fire Co. is looking for individuals to join the fire service.
A recruitment drive is underway for one of the biggest one-department towns in Western New York. The GIFC responds to more than 1,500 calls per year, including medical emergencies, fires, marine rescues, hazardous materials incidents, and motor vehicle accidents.
Each February, the GIFC takes in a recruiting class, who are trained in-house to become active volunteer firefighters. New recruits also continue their training by completing a New York state firefighter course and an emergency medical technician course.
