Elderwood at Grand Island, 2850 Grand Island Blvd., will sponsor a blood drive, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday. The blood drive will be conducted through Unyts Mobile Express bus. Unyts brings both a significant savings to area hospitals and assurance to Western New York donors that blood donations remain local.

For more information, call 716-773-5900 or to sign up to be a donor, visit www.unyts.org and click the "Give Blood" icon and enter sponsor code 0139. Those interested also can call Unyts directly at 716-512-7940 to schedule an appointment.

Elderwood at Grand Island is putting together a health fair, which will take place from 9-11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the Golden Age Center, 2255 Baseline Road. Elderwood currently has about 20 organizations that have committed to participating in order to help share information with the seniors. All vendors are supplying gift baskets, which will be raffled off to the seniors who participate.

Many of local businesses will be participating, including Quest Diagnostics, Island Prescriptions, Rite Aid Pharmacy, Grand Island Chiropractic, KeyBank and M&T Bank. Rite Aid will administer flu and pneumonia vaccinations to those in need.

Elderwood provides skilled nursing care, subacute care, rehabilitation, assisted living, independent living and memory care to more than 5,000 people each year at 17 locations in Western and Central New York. Nine Elderwood skilled nursing facilities and six assisted living communities in Western and Central New York have earned Quality Awards from the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living, the most prestigious honor in long-term care.
