Four new members join the team

Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School has announced four new additions to its staff this academic year: head boys basketball coach Giulio Colangelo, boys soccer coach Dave Socha, director of special events Kim Zenger and director of admissions and public relations Amanda Konopa.

Colangelo graduated from Niagara Catholic and said he is looking forward to the opportunity.

"As an alumnus, it's an honor to return to the school that provided me my start in basketball," he said. "Although this position presents some challenges, I am optimistic about the future of this program."

Colangelo has degrees from Fredonia State College, Niagara University and Canisius College. He has several years of coaching experience and was named BCANY Section VI Coach of the Year in 2010.

Socha has 32 years of playing experience and 10 years of coaching experience under his belt. He was the assistant coach of the women's soccer team at Niagara County Community College. Socha is parent to an NC student and president of the athletic boosters.

"The team graduated one player from last year. This is an experienced group, and I expect a lot of good things from them," he said. "I'm excited to be working with the boys."

Zenger was born and raised in Buffalo. She graduated from Niagara University with a B.A. in travel and tourism. Zenger has worked in marketing for the past 15 years and is experienced in fundraising, special events and brand development.

"My experience in building brands and working on special events will help the school continue to grow," she said.

Konopa said she is thrilled to be back in the Buffalo area after several years of living in central and downstate New York.

"I have been trying to get back to Buffalo for a while, and this is the perfect opportunity for me," she said. "I look forward to growing our enrollment at Niagara Catholic."

Konopa received a B.A. in communication from SUNY Geneseo and an M.S. in public communication from Drexel University.
